Professor Einstein and his wife arrived at Antwerp this afternoon and were welcomed by the burgomaster, M. Huysmans.
Professor Einstein afterwards received Belgian and Dutch professors at the university, and journalists, to whom he declared that he will not return to Germany as long as there is no guarantee for freedom of thought and the protection of all citizens. He believed that the situation of Jews in Germany was very dangerous as the result of the creation of a state of mind which rendered their economic and social existence extremely difficult.
Professor Einstein expressed the opinion that the denial of atrocities issued by the Central Association of Citizens of the Jewish Faith in Germany and the German Zionist Federation was inspired by political considerations.
He said he was persuaded that it was not the intention of German Government to provoke a conflict with foreign nations.
